Frequently Asked Questions
What if I’m already a member?
Because of changes in our bylaws, all past members must go through the same process as a new member. Don’t worry, it’s easy and short. Just follow the steps below.
What if I'm a member somewhere else too?
That's ok. Our membership is not exclusive. The spirit of our membership is that you are interested and actively involved.
Is there a pledge or monetary requirement?
No. Just know that without the continued giving from members like you, Unity would not exist, so we value whatever you can give… a little or a lot.
Does this mean I have to show up every week?
No. Show up when it works for your schedule. The spirit of our membership is that you are interested and actively involved. You define what that means! You are showing up for YOU!
How often do I have to renew my membership?
You have to renew your membership each year, but next year, to renew your membership you’ll simply have to fill out a member information card. That’s it!
What if I don't want to become a member?
That's ok! We embrace everyone who shows up to Unity services and events. You are a valued part of our community!

STEP 2: Listen to the short recording about Unity
Key points from the recording:
- Unity is an inclusive spiritual movement, open to people of all beliefs and all faiths.
- Unity has no dogma and no creed that you must adhere to to become a member. We have a set of guiding principles. Here are the 5 Unity Principles.
- Our essential beliefs are that there is only one God, known by many names, and that we are one with God…we are divine. Our power comes from realizing our divinity.
- God is both personal and principle. God expresses in us and as us as the unlimited source of healing, love, intelligence, harmony, joy and power.
-
Unity draws its wisdom from many faith traditions.
STEP 3: Read Membership Commitments
- As a member of Unity Spiritual Center of San Jose, I strive to live in accord with the principles of Unity and to further the work of Unity San Jose through active interest, participation, love, and support.
- I understand my voting privileges and agree to receive our newsletter and register my physical address to receive any written comms.
- No financial pledge is required but we do ask that members give what they can on a monthly basis to sustain Unity and “give back”. My generosity can be expressed financially, or through giving of my time and talents.
- I understand that there is no exclusivity to membership. Unity is an open spiritual movement that welcomes/accepts those who belong to any other faith tradition.
- I commit to seeing and treating Unity members and other attendees as part of my own spiritual community. I promise to think and act kindly toward them in word and deed, refraining from criticism or gossip.
- I commit to accelerating my spiritual evolution and my engagement with the community by participating in at least one of Unity event (concert, workshop, etc) each year.
-
I commit to attending Unity services on a regular basis (as much as possible, given my personal schedule) and keeping abreast of current happenings in the community through one or more of our news channels. (Online Newsletter; Sunday Announcements; Website).
